Job Purpose


The Commercial Broker is pivotal in making a success of the business unit in terms of both sales & profitability. In addition to managing the appointments & Account Handler duties the prime function of the CB is to complete Fact Finds from appointments & then turn these opportunities into sales. As a broker it is your responsibility to be self motivated to deliver results. You will also have the ability to consistently hit targets & KPIs by working closely with your colleagues & management to ensure that your actions fully support the business operational requirements in line with company brand & vision, policies, code of conduct & organizational culture.


Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards


Produce a monthly new business income of £5k per month

Complete Fact Finds for all clients that you have made appointments for

Convince potential clients to agree to the terms of the companies “Letter Of Engagement”

Turn each Fact Find to an the opportunity

Produce daily, weekly, monthly reports that track both renewals & new business sales

Hold internal / external meetings with insurers to help develop better working relationships

Never miss a booked Appointment. If you are too busy get a junior broker to attend instead.

Identify all the NTU quotes from a year ago & call them to see if we can try & win the business this year.

Prioritize & work on the high value risks first

Go out of the office to see clients if you believe this will help with the sale & they are a sensible distance from the office. ( For risks worth £1000 & above)

Hold closed meetings with senior management to establish that you have agreed all the conditions of the sale prior to trying to close a sale. Role play this

To conduct credit control measures – chase invoice and confirm payments from clients

Conduct 23/30/60/90 day calls with all clients to ensure great Customer Service and have a retention rate of 100%

Ensure you identify all potential gaps in clients insurance and cross sell all products

Adhere to compliance at all times

Use all systems for example ACT, Zywave and Durrell to conduct business and educate our clients and potential clients

Complete Broker Assess training which is mandatory in line FCA guidelines



Extensive knowledge of the Commercial Insurance market

Ability to broker more than one deal at a time – multi task

Good working relationships with insurers

Excellent objection handling skills

Desire to hit & exceed targets

Excellent diary management

Have a positive can do attitude

Be extremely well organized & know how to prioritize tasks

Be empathetic with regards to customers needs

Understand the importance of adhering to FCA policies & procedures

PC Literate with excellent MS Word & Excel skills

Ability to manage all aspects of client engagement

Be able to create sales presentations to both clients & insurers with credibility

Strictly maintain confidentiality & preserve sensitive information of clients & company

Have a firm belief in a “Treat Customers Fairly” culture
