Job Purpose / objectives

To provide professional arboricultural advice and an effective, efficient and high-quality service in respect of tree management within the Green Space section.

Main duties of the post

i) Assist on tree related activities within the Green Space section in accordance with current best practice and standards, and with regard to Council policies, including;

a) Identifying and mapping relevant trees
b) carrying out tree inspections
c) managing safety and tree risk
d) commissioning tree works
e) providing arboricultural advice
f) Organise woodland management

Specifically to:

ii) Carry out tree inspections at the agreed frequency to assess and record condition and risk and produce and store clear and concise reports and ensure that actions are dealt with in a timely manner

iii) Respond promptly and professionally to tree related matters raised by members of the public, and liaise with colleagues, councillors and other parties regarding such issues.

iv) Specify works in accordance with the councils tree policy, British standards and best working practices.

v) Procure tree works according to the Council’s procurement rules and policies.

vi) Adequately supervise and manage the work of arboricultural contractors to ensure high standards of workmanship are maintained and safe working practices employed, such that they are acceptable to the Council

vii) Assist with tree planting schemes and support colleagues, councillors and others with tree planting advice including species selection, positioning, purchase, planting and after care.

vii) Advise on improvements that could be achieved in the areas under the post holder’s remit, in terms of systems of work, physical on-site improvements and others.

xiii) Assist with the budgetary control of arboricultural services

xiv) Keep up to date with relevant legislative, national or local developments related to arboriculture as well as statutory requirements and public responsibilities

xvii) To ensure that all activities under the post holder’s control are undertaken in such a way as to maintain proper Health and Safety standards and are in line with the Council’s Health and Safety policies, including the preparation and review of risk assessments and/or risk/benefit analyses

Pay rate: £17.25 per hour umbrella

Three to six months contract with view to extend or make permanent
