Job Title: Joiner (Housing Repairs and Maintenance)

Job Purpose

To carry out high-quality joinery repairs, maintenance, and installations to council housing and public buildings, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to agreed standards and timescales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out internal and external joinery repairs and installations (doors, windows, floors, fittings, and fixtures).
  • Measure, cut, assemble, and fit joinery components to specification.
  • Repair or replace damaged woodwork and make good finishes (e.g. flooring, skirting, frames).
  • Ensure all work areas are left clean, safe, and tidy after completion.
  • Work from scheduled appointments and complete jobs within priority deadlines.
  • Maintain and manage tools, materials, and stock levels, reporting any discrepancies.
  • Follow all health & safety procedures and building regulations at all times.
  • Provide good customer service when working in tenants’ homes, including clear communication and respect for property.
  • Use mobile systems to receive and update job information.
  • Support and mentor apprentices when required.
  • Undertake minor multi-trade tasks where trained (e.g. basic plumbing or plastering).

Requirements

  • Qualified Joiner (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience).
  • Strong knowledge of joinery techniques and building construction.
  • Understanding of health & safety in construction environments.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
