Job Purpose:
Assisting other staff in the Legal Section in a full range of legal duties.
Duties and Responsibilities – Job Specific:
1. Assisting in the preparation and conduct of civil and criminal litigation and attending Court with Counsel
2. Assisting in the preparation and conduct of a full range of child care cases including care proceedings, fostering and adoption.
3. Assisting in the preparation of the statutory notices and orders under a variety of legislation eg relating to highways, education etc
4. Assisting in the preparation of contracts and agreements
5. Assisting with freehold and leasehold conveyancing and Town and Country Planning matters.
6. Assisting with the work relating to adult social care including Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
7.Undertaking legal research as required.
8. Undertaking any other duties consistent with those listed above and appropriate to the title and grade of the post.
9. As a contractual duty you may be asked to attend various meetings, training events etc throughout the county or further afield as requested and you must be able to travel in a timely manner to ensure efficient performance of duties and use of officer time and the provision of an effective service.
Duties and Responsibilities – Corporate:
1.To be responsible for establishing good working relationships both internally and externally.
2. Compliance with the Authority’s Policies and Procedures and to make known to Senior Officers any areas which are not adequately covered.
3. To participate actively in supporting the Authority’s principles and practices of equality of opportunity as laid down within the Equalities Policy.
4. To be responsible for the application of Health & Safety practices within the daily operations, sharing a common responsibility for Health & Safety across the department, directorate and Authority as a whole.
5. Employees will be required to give certain information relating to themselves in order that the Authority may properly carry out its duties, rights and obligations as an employer. The Authority will process and control such data principally for personnel, administrative and payroll purposes.
6. As a term of your employment and in order to maintain effective departmental operations, you may be required to undertake any other reasonable task, commensurate with your grade, as determined by your Line Manager or Head of Service.
