Job Title: Occupational Therapy Assistant (Waiting List Support)

Location: Mostly Remote (with occasional attendance in the borough)
Reporting to: OT Manager and Advanced Practitioner OT

Umbrella rate:  £23.71

This period closes on Friday January 23 2026 at 13:00.

Role Overview

The Occupational Therapy Assistant will provide proactive telephone-based support to residents who are on an occupational therapy waiting list. The role focuses on ensuring resident safety, offering reassurance, assessing levels of risk, and recommending simple equipment where appropriate. The post holder will work to strict daily targets, maintain accurate records, and support wider council priorities as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Make daily telephone calls to residents on the OT waiting list to check on wellbeing and safety
  • Inform residents of their waiting list status and provide reassurance and clear information
  • Use clinical reasoning to assess risk and identify any immediate concerns
  • Prescribe or arrange simple items of equipment in line with agreed protocols
  • Escalate high-risk cases to qualified Occupational Therapists where appropriate
  • Meet strict daily call and performance targets
  • Complete accurate daily reports detailing contacts and outcomes
  • Provide ad hoc support on urgent or critical council-related matters
  • Attend the borough as required for meetings, equipment delivery, or service needs

Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in a health or social care setting, ideally within occupational therapy
  • Strong communication skills, particularly when engaging with vulnerable residents by phone
  • Ability to use clinical judgement and manage risk appropriately
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to meet targets and deadlines
  • Confident with record keeping and reporting
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting

Supervision and Support

The role will be fully supervised by an OT Manager and an Advanced Practitioner OT, with clear escalation pathways and ongoing guidance provided.
