Job Title: Early Years Practitioner / Childcare Support

Role Purpose:
To provide high-quality integrated day care and early education to children from birth to 7 years within a multi-disciplinary team, in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).


Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Planning & Delivery

  • Contribute to planning and support the delivery of a high-quality early years curriculum.

  • Commit fully to anti-discriminatory practice.

  • Plan daily, weekly, and termly activities to meet individual children’s needs and interests.

  • Maintain accurate record-keeping to track individual children’s development.

Child Development & Assessment

  • Promote children’s development in a secure, safe, and stimulating environment.

  • Reference good practice curriculum guidance appropriate to children’s ages and stages.

  • Provide input into the assessment of children’s overall development through observations, achievement recording, and maintaining high-standard developmental records.

Key Worker Support & Transitions

  • Support colleagues in their key worker responsibilities for specific groups of children.

  • Facilitate smooth transitions from home to centre and from centre to school.

Behaviour Management & Inclusion

  • Effectively manage children’s behaviour in line with procedural guidance.

  • Implement planned interventions for children with additional needs.

Physical Care & Health Support

  • Provide appropriate physical care, including washing, toileting, changing, feeding, dressing, comforting, and administering medication.

  • Assist children in acquiring and developing self-help skills, including toileting and personal hygiene.

  • Implement individual movement programmes under professional direction when required.

  • Help with first aid provision, comforting sick or injured children, and liaising with designated first-aiders, senior staff, or medical professionals.

  • Accompany children to hospital or doctors when necessary. Training will be provided for basic medical procedures.

Safety & Safeguarding

  • Work in accordance with Child Protection procedures and report any concerns to centre managers.

  • Assist in organising outings for children’s education, interest, and enjoyment, ensuring safety at all times.

  • Lift and assist children as needed, including transferring from seating to mobility aids.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to work the shift pattern required by the setting, typically between 8:00am and 6:00pm.
