Safeguarding Co-ordinator

Location Work Base: Wigston Police Station
Status: Established
Responsible To: Detective Sergeant / Safeguarding Team Leader

Job Role/Purpose:

To conduct risk assessments to ensure that all reports and referrals concerning adults and children at risk are efficiently and effectively reviewed, processed and shared with partner agencies and internal stakeholders. To research and interrogate police systems and to compile reports. To attend partnership multi agency and disclosure meetings as required and carry out any other actions relevant to safeguarding and reducing risk.
Health and Safety: To comply with the health and safety policy and its associated procedures and co-operate with your manager and the force to protect your health and safety and that of other people. To comply with the relevant risk assessments for your job role and report accidents, incidents and near misses.
Contacts: Police and Police staff, partner agencies and members of the general public.

Person Specification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge/ Education:
• To be educated to A Level standard in English Language or equivalent and/or work experience requiring the use of English Language to the above standard

Work Experience:
• Experience of working within a confidential environment
• Ability to compile data into report format accurately and concisely by researching IT systems and other means
• Good analytical and investigative skills
• Ability to plan and organise own workloads in a busy pressurised environment • Ability to use initiative, particularly in problem solving
• Able to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels, using written and verbal communication skills
• Experience of working in a busy environment with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Excellent listening skills
• Ability to deal with conflict, calmly and effectively Personal/Interpersonal Skills, Aptitudes:
• Able to work both independently and as part of a team

Core Responsibilities/ Accountabilities
Operational:
• Compiling of adult and child safeguarding reports.
• Attendance at multi-agency meetings to represent the police and actively engage in the decision-making process.
• Disclosure of police information to members of the public resulting from DVDS applications.
• Allocation of workflows and referrals.
• Minute-taking for safeguarding meetings.
• Research, assessment and processing of safeguarding referrals for adults and children.
• Effective and proportionate information sharing with internal and external stakeholders.
• Provision of safeguarding guidance and advice to Police colleagues.
• Identification of high-risk cases and appropriate escalation.
• Assessment of information to ensure previously unreported crimes are recorded and actioned.
• Active engagement with the ongoing development of efficient and effective processes within the Safeguarding Hub.
• Use of professional judgement to make and record decisions on a case-by-case basis.
• Ensuring that correspondence and enquiries are dealt with as appropriate and in a timely manner.
• Maintenance of diaries, arranging and planning appointments and meetings.
• Responsibility for covering the roles of colleagues in the event of absence, ensuring continuity of work as directed by a Supervisor.

General:
• Ensure security of all information according to Force Policy and the Data Protection Act.
• Undertake such other duties commensurate with the post as may be required for the safe and effective performance of the job.
• Be flexible in terms of working location and be prepared to work at other locations within the Force area, undertaking a similar role.
