Job Description – Specialist Occupational Therapist (Band 7)
Location: Haylock House, Kettering, NN15 6EY
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days office / 3 days home
Pay: £39 Umbrella per hour
Job Purpose
To provide highly skilled, specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions that promote independence, reduce risk, and prevent unnecessary hospital admission or long-term residential care. The post-holder will act as a clinical specialist within designated areas of practice and support the ongoing development of Community Occupational Therapy services in Northamptonshire.
Key Responsibilities
Specialist Clinical Practice
Undertake complex and highly specialised Occupational Therapy assessments within the community.
Develop, implement, and evaluate safe, effective interventions that maintain or improve functional independence.
Provide expert clinical reasoning and decision-making for high-risk or complex cases.
Recommend and oversee the provision of equipment, minor adaptations, and environmental strategies to support safe living at home.
Clinical Specialism & Leadership
Lead in at least one specialist area such as:
Community OT
Dementia care
Reablement
Manual handling
Provide specialist advice, training, and support to colleagues, carers, and other professionals.
Contribute to the development of clinical pathways and evidence-based practice across the service.
Service Development
Support the management and continuous improvement of the Community Occupational Therapy service within Northamptonshire.
Assist Olympus in developing and maintaining a high-quality, profitable community-based therapy service.
Ensure all professional standards, policies, and clinical governance requirements are met.
Professional Responsibilities
Supervise and support junior staff, assistants, and students as required.
Maintain accurate, timely documentation and contribute to audit and quality assurance processes.
Keep up to date with legislation, best practice, and professional developments relevant to adult community OT.
Person Specification
Essential
HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist.
Significant post-registration experience, including complex community work.
Expertise in at least one relevant clinical specialty.
Strong clinical reasoning, problem-solving, and risk-management skills.
Ability to work autonomously and lead others.
Desirable
Experience contributing to service development or improvement projects.
Training or qualification in manual handling, dementia, or reablement.
