Work Pattern: Mon – Fri, 37 hours per week
PAYE Pay Rate: £18.84 per hour
Main Purpose of the Role
To provide professional HR advice and support to managers and employees across the Council. The role covers employee relations, HR policies, employment law, organisational change and HR projects, with responsibilities increasing as the officer progresses through the career grades.
Typical Day Overview
- Provide HR advice and guidance to managers and employees.
- Support employee relations cases including disciplinary, grievance, absence and capability.
- Advise on employment law, HR policies and terms and conditions.
- Support recruitment, redeployment and organisational change.
- Work with Trade Unions and support consultation processes.
- Conduct meetings with managers and employees.
- Analyse HR data and management information.
- Prepare HR reports, presentations and recommendations.
- Support HR policy and process development.
- Work with Occupational Health, Health & Safety and Organisational Development teams.
- Progressively take responsibility for HR projects, complex casework and service portfolios.
Key Skills & Responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of HR policies, employment law and employee relations.
- Experience handling disciplinary, grievance, absence and capability cases.
- Ability to provide clear and practical HR advice to managers.
- Understanding of Trade Union consultation and partnership working.
- Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
- Ability to analyse HR data and provide recommendations.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
- Experience supporting restructures, redeployment and organisational change.
- Good Microsoft Office and HR systems/HRMI skills
- Ability to develop effective relationships across the organisation.
Essential Requirements
- CIPD qualified or working towards CIPD.
- Relevant HR experience.
- Strong Employee Relations experience.
- Knowledge of employment law and HR policies.
- Experience with disciplinary, grievance, absence and capability cases.
- Good communication and negotiation skills.
- Experience working with Trade Unions desirable.
- Microsoft Office and HR systems experience.
- Ability to work independently and manage a busy workload.
- Local government HR experience is desirable.
