About the Role
Coventry City Council is looking for reliable and hardworking Food Waste Collection Operatives to support the rollout and ongoing collection of food waste bins across the city.
This is a physically demanding, outdoor role working as part of a collection crew. You will be responsible for collecting food waste bins from residential properties, completing assigned collection routes safely and efficiently, and providing a professional service to Coventry residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect food waste bins from residential properties across Coventry.
- Work as part of a collection crew to complete daily collection rounds.
- Safely lift, carry and empty food waste bins as required.
- Follow designated routes and ensure collections are completed efficiently.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and operational guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, safe and professional working environment.
- Interact professionally and courteously with residents.
- Report missed collections, access problems or other operational issues.
- Support colleagues to ensure the daily service is delivered effectively.
- Work outdoors in a range of weather conditions.
About You
Essential
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
- Physically fit and able to undertake regular manual handling.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Good understanding of health and safety.
- Able to undertake early morning starts, with shifts starting from 6:00am.
Desirable
Previous experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Refuse or waste collection.
- Recycling or environmental services.
- Street cleansing.
- General labouring.
- Other physically demanding outdoor or manual roles.
Previous food waste collection experience is not essential, as full role requirements will be discussed during the recruitment process.
Working Hours
- Monday to Thursday: 7.5 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
- Friday: 7 hours, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
- Occasional Saturdays: May be required and will be paid at time and a half.
- Shifts will vary according to the needs of the service.
- Earliest start time: 6:00am.
- Latest finish time: 4:45pm.
- Shift patterns will be discussed during interview.
- Successful candidates will be rota’d directly by Coventry City Council.
PPE
Coventry City Council will provide the required PPE.
Candidates will be responsible for providing their own safety boots.
