5301341 – Refuse Driver

The Chargehand Driver – Waste role is responsible for leading a team of Waste Operatives to deliver safe, efficient and reliable waste collection services across the Borough. The post holder will supervise daily collection rounds, ensure health and safety procedures are followed, drive and maintain the HGV vehicle, and support the team in collecting and disposing of different waste types in line with Council requirements.

A typical day will involve checking the vehicle, organising the team’s workload, overseeing waste collections, dealing with operational issues, supporting residents and businesses with enquiries, and maintaining communication with supervisors. The role requires good leadership, safe driving skills and a commitment to providing a high-quality public service.

Driving Responsibilities: Operating an HGV Refuse Vehicle and adhering to predetermined schedules to remove household, industrial, and commercial waste.

Team Work: Work with a small team of refuse loaders to achieve service objectives and quality standards.

Equipment Maintenance: Ensuring the careful use and maintenance of the vehicle, tools, and equipment allocated to you.
