About the job

The Access to Education Service sits within the Education and Inclusion portfolio. The service has statutory duties in relation to school admissions, monitoring and tracking of cases through the Admissions, Appeals and Fair Access Protocol and in relation to Children Missing Education (CME).

 The role of the Access to Education Officer (Admissions) is to support the Local Authority’s statutory duties by ensuring applications are processed in line with statutory requirements in order that children are offered a school place, adequately tracked and placed via statutory admission to school processes and subsequently enrolled.

Duties :

  1. Input new referrals on to appropriate systems and maintain accurate records by using both manual and electronic systems.
  2. Work with the Admissions Team to administer and process school Admission applications and transfers.
  3. Work closely with the Principal Officer – Admissions and the CME Officer to ensure statutory requirements are met and case referrals are made to appropriate services where necessary.
  4. Support wider Access to Education functions as required to meet seasonal demands and to ensure statutory requirements are met.
  5. Ability to work both as part of a team and individually to meet service requirements and statutory timeframes.
  6. Working knowledge of the School Admissions Code 2021
  7. Experience of using a range of IT applications including Capita One education, data bases, excel spreadsheets etc

Umbrella hourly rate – £16.94
