Adult ESOL Tutor (Part-Time – 15 Hours per Week)

Location: Various community and employer-based venues
Hours: 15 hours per week, including evening delivery
Contract: Part-Time

We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Adult ESOL Tutor to join our team and deliver high-quality English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) provision to adult learners. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting learners from diverse backgrounds to improve their English language skills, confidence, employability, and progression opportunities.

The successful candidate will be flexible in their approach to delivery and willing to teach in a variety of settings, including community venues, schools, and employer workplaces, with some evening teaching required.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive ESOL sessions tailored to learners’ individual starting points and learning needs.
  • Use adaptive teaching strategies to support learners with diverse backgrounds and additional learning needs.
  • Integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills within meaningful, real-life contexts.
  • Embed English, digital skills, employability, and life skills within teaching and learning activities.

Assessment and Progress

  • Conduct initial, diagnostic, and ongoing assessments to inform teaching and monitor learner progress.
  • Maintain accurate learner records and achievement documentation in line with organisational requirements.
  • Provide regular, constructive feedback to support learner development and achievement.

Learner Support and Inclusion

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Identify and respond to barriers to learning, referring learners to additional support services where appropriate.
  • Support learners to build confidence, independence, and essential life skills.

Employability and Progression

  • Embed employability skills and progression opportunities within learning programmes.
  • Support learners to progress into further learning, vocational training, or employment.
  • Contribute to activities that enhance learner progression and positive outcomes.

Quality and Compliance

  • Maintain high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, lesson observations, and continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, Prevent, equality, diversity, and inclusion policies.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience of teaching ESOL to adult learners.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive teaching and learner-centred practice.
  • Experience supporting learners from a wide range of backgrounds, including vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant ESOL teaching qualification (or currently working towards one).
