About the Role

We are looking for a Building Control Surveyor to join our Building Control team, helping to ensure that construction work across the borough complies with Building Regulations and associated legislation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Building Control professional or someone looking to progress within a career-grade structure.

You’ll play a key role in protecting public health, safety and welfare by assessing building regulation applications, carrying out site inspections and providing professional advice to a wide range of customers including homeowners, developers, architects and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess Building Regulation applications for compliance with current legislation and Approved Documents.
  • Carry out site inspections throughout the construction process to ensure works comply with Building Regulations.
  • Provide clear technical advice and guidance to applicants, architects, builders and other stakeholders.
  • Review basic structural calculations and technical submissions.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external organisations regarding Building Control applications.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and case files.
  • Investigate unauthorised works and assist with enforcement action where required, including preparing reports and attending court as a witness when necessary.
  • Respond to dangerous structure incidents as part of an out-of-hours emergency call-out rota.
  • Contribute to service improvements, customer satisfaction and business development initiatives.

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience working within Building Control.
  • A sound understanding of Building Regulations, Approved Documents and associated legislation.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to manage their own caseload and prioritise work effectively.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Building Control software.
  • The confidence to make professional decisions and work independently.
  • A commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).
  • The ability to undertake site inspections, including working at height and in confined spaces where required.

Desirable

  • Experience of Building Control enforcement work.
  • Experience preparing legal documentation and attending court proceedings.
  • Knowledge of current industry developments and best practice.
