Job Overview
Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council is looking for a reliable and organised Business Support Assistant to provide effective administrative and business support to the team.
The successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day running of the service, ensuring that administrative processes are completed accurately and efficiently. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational and communication skills who enjoys working in a busy public-sector environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general administrative and business support to the team.
- Maintain accurate records, databases, spreadsheets and filing systems.
- Process correspondence, documents and other administrative information.
- Prepare letters, reports, agendas, meeting notes and other documentation as required.
- Deal with telephone, email and written enquiries in a professional and timely manner.
- Organise and coordinate meetings, appointments and room bookings.
- Take meeting notes/minutes and distribute relevant documentation where required.
- Input, update and retrieve information from internal systems.
- Assist with monitoring workloads, deadlines and administrative processes.
- Support the preparation of reports, presentations and management information.
- Handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Liaise with colleagues, managers, service users and external stakeholders.
- Follow council policies, procedures and data protection requirements.
- Undertake any other reasonable administrative duties required by the service.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in an administrative, business support or office-based role.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Professional and customer-focused approach.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Desirable
- Previous experience working within a local authority or public-sector environment.
- Experience using council or other administrative databases and systems.
- Experience taking minutes or supporting meetings.
- Knowledge of administrative procedures within a large organisation.
