Business Support Officer – Children’s Social Care – Minute Taking
About the Role
We are looking for an organised and proactive Business Support Officer to join the CHAT Team within Children’s Social Care, Early Help Support & Protection and Immediate Response. The successful candidate will provide high-quality administrative and business support to social care professionals, helping the team to deliver an effective and responsive service to children, young people and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive administrative support to the CHAT Team and wider Children’s Social Care service.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic records, databases and case management systems.
- Prepare documents, reports, correspondence and other information as required.
- Arrange and coordinate meetings, appointments and team activities.
- Attend meetings and produce accurate, clear and timely minutes, recording key discussions, decisions and actions.
- Update records and ensure actions arising from meetings are followed up appropriately.
- Process referrals, requests and correspondence in line with service procedures.
- Liaise professionally with social workers, managers, partner agencies, families and other stakeholders.
- Handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately and in accordance with data protection requirements.
- Support the team with general office administration, including filing, photocopying, scanning and document management.
- Assist with monitoring workloads, deadlines and outstanding actions.
- Provide flexible administrative support during periods of high demand within the Immediate Response service.
About You
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a busy administrative or business support environment, preferably within Children’s Services, Social Care, Early Help, Safeguarding or another public-sector setting. You will have excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. Experience of taking formal minutes and maintaining confidential case records would be highly desirable.
You will also need:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong IT and Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience using databases or case management systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- The ability to work independently while supporting a wider team.
- A professional and calm approach when working in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Experience within a local authority or children’s services environment is desirable.
