📌 Role Overview
The Commercial Vehicle Technician (Level 3) is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of the council’s commercial vehicle fleet, plant, and equipment. The role ensures all vehicles are maintained to legal, manufacturer, and lease standards, supporting safe and efficient council operations.
You will work as part of a workshop team under the guidance of the Workshop Manager, contributing to timely, cost-effective, and compliant fleet maintenance, including electric and heavy vehicles.
🔧 Key Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on HGVs, vans, and plant equipment
- Ensure all vehicles meet DVSA and legal safety standards
- Perform MOT testing duties (Classes 4–7) as a nominated tester
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and increasingly electric vehicle (EV) systems
- Support maintenance of electric heavy vehicles and hybrid fleet where required
- Complete accurate job records using workshop systems (e.g., Oracle)
- Work in line with manufacturer specifications and lease requirements
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
- Support workshop operations and assist colleagues as required
🎓 Skills & Qualifications Required
- NVQ Level 3 / IMI Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- GCSE level education (including English and Maths) or equivalent experience
- Category C (HGV Class 2) driving licence
- DVSA MOT Nominated Tester (Classes 4–7)
- Experience working on HGVs, commercial vehicles, or fleet maintenance
- EV or hybrid vehicle experience (preferred, especially heavy electric trucks)
