Job Details

To manage the Legal Services Team on a day to day basis, in particular:

 

(a)        allocating and monitoring work

(b)        supervising, directing and motivating staff

(c)        to ensure work is dealt with as expeditiously and competently as possible

(d)        to ensure cover at all times during core office hours

(e)        to maintain standards of client care

(f)        liaison and co-ordination with other parts of the Business Centre and Council

 

The appraisal of staff directly supervised.

Advocacy in proceedings before the Courts or at Inquiries or other Tribunals

Instruction of Counsel in respect of cases before the Courts, at Inquiries or other Tribunals and when necessary in respect of matters arising from the post holder’s duties.

Budget management in relation to legal costs income and expenditure including legal library/online referencing resources and training.

Providing general corporate legal advice to Members, Chief Officers and their services on a wide range of legal matters.

Attendance at meetings of officers and partners/stakeholder organizations as legal adviser.

Preparation and/or checking of reports to Committees and other meetings of the Council.

Attendance at Committees and other meetings of the Council as required as legal adviser, including evening meetings.

Advising Members of the law relating to the Council’s activities and practice and procedure in addition to advice in respect of the Council’s interests and dealing with general enquiries from Members and other statutory bodies, organizations and the public.

To ensure that enquiries and complaints on legal matters from members of the public are properly answered, dealing with them personally when necessary.

To represent the Business Centre as required on project teams and working groups.

The pay rate is £43.87 an hour.
