Qualification: Level 3 Early Years and Childcare or equivalent (essential)

Job Overview

Rochdale Borough Council is looking for a committed Early Years Worker to join its Early Help & Early Years Service. You will support children aged 0–5 and their families to promote child development, improve school readiness and ensure children receive the best possible start in life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, play-based activities that support children’s learning and development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Provide one-to-one and group support to children and families, including vulnerable families who may need additional help.
  • Support parents and carers to develop positive home learning environments.
  • Promote children’s speech, language and communication skills, identifying developmental needs and arranging appropriate support.
  • Complete assessments, including Early Help and school readiness assessments, and maintain accurate records using council systems.
  • Work collaboratively with health visitors, social workers and other professionals to coordinate support for children and families.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and promote equality, inclusion and the welfare of all children.
  • Work across Family Hubs, community venues and family homes as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Level 3 qualification in Early Years and Childcare or equivalent.
  • Experience working with young children and families, including vulnerable groups.
  • Knowledge of child development, the EYFS and safeguarding procedures.
  • Experience planning activities and supporting children’s learning and development.
  • Strong communication, organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-agency team.
  • Flexibility to travel across the borough and occasionally work outside normal hours.
