Job Description: Electrician (Managed Property Services)

Overview
Rochdale Borough Council’s Managed Property Services (MPS) are seeking a qualified Electrician to join a reactive and planned maintenance team delivering a high-quality building maintenance service across the borough.
The role involves carrying out electrical installation, maintenance, fault finding, testing, and repair work across a wide range of council properties, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with current regulations and customer service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out electrical installation, repairs, fault finding, and diagnostics across council buildings
- Undertake Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) and statutory testing using appropriate software
- Test, repair, and maintain emergency lighting systems and other life safety systems
- Work on a range of building systems including fire alarms, CCTV, access control, intruder alarms, data/comms, and BMS systems
- Support maintenance and repair of mechanical systems such as heating controls and fan convectors
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across domestic and commercial properties
- Work on green technologies and renewable energy systems where required
- Ensure all work complies with current electrical regulations, health and safety standards, and council procedures
- Accurately complete job records, timesheets, and certification using digital systems
- Assist with material ordering, job planning, and pre-measurement of works
- Liaise professionally with clients, colleagues, contractors, and members of the public
- Support and supervise apprentices and trainees when required
- Work independently or as part of a multi-trade team across various sites
Requirements
- Relevant electrical qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 3, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, City & Guilds 2391 Testing & Inspection or equivalent)
- Proven experience in electrical maintenance and installation work
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Ability to work safely at height and in confined spaces when required
- Full understanding of health and safety regulations and safe systems of work
- Enhanced DBS clearance (children’s barred list) required
Working Conditions
- 37 hours per week, flexible depending on service needs
- Based at Green Lane Depot, Heywood, with work across the Rochdale borough
- Includes lone working, outdoor work, and varied site conditions
- Participation in on-call or emergency response may be required
