Electrician (Social Housing Repairs & Maintenance)
Job Purpose
We are seeking a qualified Electrician to join our Repairs and Maintenance team, delivering high-quality electrical repairs, testing, maintenance and installation services across our housing stock. The successful candidate will support the delivery of responsive repairs, void property works, compliance activities and planned maintenance programmes while providing excellent customer service to tenants and residents.
Working within a multi-skilled environment, you will ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and in compliance with current electrical regulations, building regulations and health and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out electrical repairs, maintenance, testing and installation work within domestic properties.
- Complete electrical inspections, testing and fault-finding activities, including remedial works where required.
- Undertake responsive repairs, void property works and planned maintenance activities.
- Ensure all work complies with current IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition), Building Regulations and relevant statutory requirements.
- Diagnose electrical faults and recommend appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
- Work collaboratively with other trades to ensure efficient completion of repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Undertake minor multi-skilled works and make-good activities associated with electrical repairs.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, productivity and customer service.
- Accurately complete job records, material requests and updates using handheld PDA devices.
- Liaise professionally with tenants and residents, explaining works and arranging follow-up appointments where necessary.
- Participate in the out-of-hours emergency call-out rota.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools and equipment in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure work areas are left clean, safe and tidy following completion of works.
- Identify and report safeguarding concerns, health and safety issues and property-related risks.
- Attend training courses, toolbox talks and team meetings as required.
Essential Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation.
- City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing (or equivalent).
- City & Guilds 2382 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Experience carrying out domestic electrical repairs, maintenance and fault finding.
- Knowledge of current electrical regulations and health and safety legislation.
- Ability to complete EICRs, testing and remedial works.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Requirements
- City & Guilds 2377 Portable Appliance Testing.
- Experience within social housing, local authority or housing association environments.
- Multi-skilled maintenance experience across other building trades.
- Health and Safety qualification.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will be a customer-focused electrician with experience working in occupied domestic properties. You will be comfortable carrying out electrical testing, fault diagnosis and repairs while delivering excellent service to residents. Experience within social housing, responsive repairs and void property maintenance would be highly advantageous.
