About the Role

Sunderland City Council is looking for a Maintenance Operative Technical (Electrician) to join its Property Services and Repairs & Maintenance team.

The role involves carrying out a range of electrical installation, repair and maintenance work across domestic, commercial and industrial buildings. You will work alongside other members of the Repairs and Maintenance Team to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out electrical repairs, maintenance and installation work across a range of properties.
• Diagnose and rectify electrical faults and maintenance issues.
• Undertake a variety of technical trade activities to support the Repairs and Maintenance service.
• Work effectively as part of a busy operational maintenance team.
• Ensure all work complies with relevant electrical regulations, safety requirements and quality standards.
• Complete work within agreed timescales and budgets.
• Provide a professional and customer-focused service to residents and other customers.
• Support the wider Property Services team with general maintenance requirements where appropriate.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship across all completed jobs.

Essential Requirements

• Relevant 18th Edition BS7671 electrical qualification.
• Experience working within a busy repairs and maintenance environment.
• Practical experience carrying out electrical repairs, maintenance and installation work.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Good customer service and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

• 2391-52 Inspection and Testing qualification or equivalent, or currently working towards this.
• Experience working with commercial-grade emergency systems.
• Experience working with security systems.
• Previous experience within a local authority, housing, property services or similar maintenance environment.

A works vehicle will be provided to successful candidates to enable them to carry out their duties across the service.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting Sunderland City Council’s ongoing development of its Repairs and Maintenance service, ensuring customers receive a reliable, high-quality and professional service.
