Job Title: Electrical & Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative

Department: Repairs & Maintenance
Reports to: Repairs Team Leader

Job Purpose

To ensure CBC achieves its business objectives by delivering high-quality electrical and general maintenance services in domestic properties. The role supports Repairs Team Leaders in maintaining top-quality performance, providing excellent customer service, and carrying out all work safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant legislation and standards.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Maintenance Duties

  • Carry out electrical repair, testing, maintenance, and installation work in line with IEE regulations, 18th Edition wiring rules, and building regulations.
  • Undertake multi-trade repair work during peaks or shortfalls, as directed by team leaders.
  • Ensure all repairs are completed to a high standard and within required timeframes.
  • Inspect disrepair, assess options, and carry out remedial works appropriately.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles responsibly; report any damage or servicing needs.
  • Deliver collected waste to designated locations and manage materials responsibly.

Customer & Community Focus

  • Act as a professional, customer-facing representative when working in tenants’ homes.
  • Explain repair work clearly to tenants and ensure safe, respectful access.
  • Participate in tenant training, small repair demonstrations, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of safeguarding issues and report any concerns.

Compliance & Safety

  • Adhere to health and safety legislation, safe working methods, and PPE requirements.
  • Report accidents, hazardous occurrences, or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Ensure all electrical work meets statutory, regulatory, and compliance requirements.

Teamwork & Operational Support

  • Support Repairs Team Leaders in achieving service delivery goals and partnership initiatives.
  • Provide cover for team members as needed and assist colleagues with multi-person tasks.
  • Complete timesheets, job records, and PDA/device entries accurately and on time.
  • Liaise with other trades for efficient coordination of work activities.

Qualifications & Skills

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation.
  • City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing), 2382 (18th Edition Wiring), and 2377 (PAT).
  • Health & Safety qualification relevant to construction/maintenance.
  • Advanced City & Guilds or equivalent in relevant building trade.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely, independently, and as part of a multi-skilled team.
