About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrician to join a Repairs & Maintenance/F facilities management team working across various Coventry City Council sites.

This is a hands-on commercial electrical maintenance role, involving reactive repairs, planned preventative maintenance, inspections, testing and new electrical installations across council buildings and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive electrical repairs, fault finding and diagnosis.
  • Install, maintain and repair commercial electrical lighting systems.
  • Install and maintain fire alarm systems.
  • Install new EV charging points and support other low-carbon technologies where required.
  • Install, modify and maintain electrical fixtures, fittings and commercial appliances.
  • Carry out electrical inspections, testing and planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
  • Complete electrical installations and upgrades in line with current regulations and industry standards.
  • Accurately record completed works, materials used and any issues identified.
  • Provide updates to site contacts, planners and management regarding progress and required remedial works.
  • Use CAFM systems to manage jobs and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Produce quotations/estimates for additional electrical and remedial works when required.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with relevant British Standards, legislation and electrical regulations.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and vehicles appropriately.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours/late rota when required.
  • Support and mentor apprentices or trainees.

Essential Requirements

  • Level 3 Electrical qualification or recognised equivalent.
  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations – essential.
  • Proven experience in commercial electrical maintenance.
  • Experience carrying out electrical installation, maintenance, fault finding, inspection and testing.
  • Good knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, circuits and safety requirements.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, technical diagrams and schematics.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.

Desirable

  • 2391 Inspection & Testing
  • PASMA
  • IPAF
  • Experience with EV chargers, solar systems or heat pumps.
  • Previous experience working within a local authority, facilities management or commercial maintenance environment.

Compliance Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS required
  • DVLA check required
  • Relevant electrical qualifications will be subject to compliance checks.
  • Candidate must be able to provide their own hand tools.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a qualified commercial/maintenance electrician with strong hands-on experience working across commercial or public buildings. They should be confident undertaking reactive repairs, planned maintenance, testing and new installations, with 18th Edition and commercial maintenance experience being essential.
