Job Title: ESOL & Adult Learning Tutor

Location: County Hall North, Horsham
Hours: 30 per week
Pay: £16.89 per hour (PAYE)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and qualified ESOL and Adult Learning Tutor to join our Adult Learning team. This role focuses on delivering high-quality learning and training programmes to adults across West Sussex, with a particular focus on supporting our most vulnerable residents.

You will work in partnership with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop and deliver a curriculum that enables residents to achieve their potential through accredited qualifications and ESOL programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and deliver ESOL programmes and other accredited qualifications for adult learners.
  • Support learners to achieve outcomes in five core areas:
    • Learning for Work – skills for employment
    • Learning for Life – practical everyday skills
    • Learning to Support Families – skills to benefit family life
    • Learning for Health and Wellbeing – promoting physical and mental health
    • Learning for Enrichment and Personal Interest – hobbies, personal growth, and cultural engagement
  • Work with the Programme Officer and wider Adult Learning team to ensure learning provision meets community needs.
  • Maintain compliance with ESFA and Ofsted requirements, ensuring high standards of teaching and assessment.
  • Travel independently to various learning venues across the county.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Qualified and experienced ESOL or adult learning tutor.
  • Proven track record delivering accredited qualifications.
  • Strong understanding of adult learners’ needs, including vulnerable groups.
  • Knowledge of ESFA funding requirements and Ofsted standards.
  • Ability to plan, deliver, and assess high-quality learning programmes.
  • Reliable and able to travel independently across the county.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in partnership with external organisations or community groups.
  • Additional subject specialisms relevant to adult learning.
