Family Help & First Response Service – Children’s Services
Overview
This role sits within Trafford’s Family Help service, which supports children and families to receive the right help at the right time from the right professional. The postholder will provide targeted, early intervention support to families experiencing a range of needs, helping to prevent escalation into statutory services.
You will work closely with children, parents, carers, and multi-agency partners to develop and deliver coordinated family plans that improve outcomes and strengthen family resilience.
Key Purpose of the Role
To work directly with children and families to assess needs, identify risks, and deliver targeted support through a strength-based, multi-agency approach. The role focuses on improving outcomes for children by addressing issues such as mental health, domestic abuse, substance misuse, and complex family dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake holistic assessments of children and families to identify needs, strengths, and risks
- Develop and deliver tailored Family Help Plans in partnership with families and professionals
- Provide targeted, evidence-based interventions to support positive change
- Work directly with families in their homes and community settings to build trust and engagement
- Use safeguarding and risk assessment tools to identify and manage concerns
- Coordinate support from multi-agency partners including health, education, and social care
- Ensure the voice of the child is captured and reflected in all assessments and plans
- Support families to achieve sustainable change using a strengths-based and restorative approach
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records on electronic systems
- Contribute to reducing risk and preventing escalation into statutory services
About You
You will have:
- Experience working with children, young people, or families in a support or intervention role
- Knowledge or experience in areas such as mental health, domestic abuse, substance misuse, or complex family needs
- Understanding of safeguarding, child development, and early help principles
- Experience working with multi-agency partners
- Ability to assess risk and develop structured support plans
You will be:
- Skilled at building trusting relationships with families
- Confident working independently and managing a caseload
- Resilient when working with challenging and complex situations
- Strong in communication, organisation, and problem-solving
- Committed to improving outcomes for children and families
Requirements
- Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (e.g. social care, education, health, youth work)
- Level 2 safeguarding qualification (children and adults)
- Enhanced DBS check
- Full driving licence and ability to travel across the borough
- Flexible approach, including occasional out-of-hours work
