Job Description – Finance Business Partner

Role Purpose
Act as a strategic partner between Finance and operational departments, providing expert financial advice, support, and constructive challenge to senior leadership. The role ensures effective financial management, value for money, and alignment with organisational objectives, while supporting operational and strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior leaders across departments to provide financial insight, guidance, and challenge on budgets, plans, and business decisions
  • Lead the planning, development, and management of revenue and capital budgets, ensuring resources are used effectively
  • Monitor financial performance, producing monthly reports, forecasts, and variance analysis for stakeholders
  • Identify and drive efficiency savings and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Provide clear, accessible financial advice to non-finance stakeholders to support decision-making
  • Represent Finance at strategic meetings and project boards, influencing outcomes and ensuring financial governance
  • Maintain robust financial forecasts and medium-term planning, highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, audit requirements, and governance standards
  • Act as a key point of contact for all finance-related matters within assigned areas
  • Support and develop junior finance staff, promoting high performance and capability

Key Skills & Experience

  • Qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience
  • Strong background in budget management, financial planning, and forecasting
  • Proven ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate financial data into clear insights
  • Experience working in a complex or public sector environment (desirable)
  • Leadership or team management experience (desirable)
