Fire Risk Assessor
Location: County Hall, Morpeth (with travel across Northumberland)
Department: Corporate Health & Safety
Reports to: Corporate Health & Safety Manager
The Role
We are seeking a Fire Risk Assessor to carry out fire risk assessments across a diverse portfolio of council buildings, including schools, offices, depots, and historic properties. You will identify fire hazards, assess risks, and provide practical recommendations to ensure compliance with fire safety legislation and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site fire risk assessments across a range of properties
- Identify fire hazards, including ignition sources, fuel loads, and structural risks
- Assess fire safety measures such as alarms, emergency lighting, fire doors, and escape routes
- Produce clear, detailed reports in line with PAS79 methodology
- Provide expert advice to building managers on fire safety improvements and legal requirements
- Carry out follow-up visits to monitor progress against recommendations
- Maintain accurate records and update fire risk assessment systems
- Support and share knowledge with colleagues within the Health & Safety team
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including fire authorities and insurers
About You
- Experience carrying out fire risk assessments in a variety of buildings
- Good knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and standards (e.g. PAS79)
- Strong report writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Additional Information
- Extensive travel across Northumberland is required
- Standard office hours (no shift or night work)
- Hybrid working with a mix of site visits and office/home working
