Gas Engineer
Location: Kettering
Department: Housing Maintenance & Development
Reports to: Repairs Officer (Gas)
Job Purpose
We are looking for an experienced and qualified Gas Engineer to join the Council’s Housing Maintenance team. You will be responsible for carrying out a range of gas servicing, maintenance, repair, installation and safety works across the Council’s housing stock and corporate properties.
You will work independently and as part of a wider maintenance team, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with current gas regulations and Council procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out gas maintenance and repair works in accordance with allocated work orders.
- Undertake gas installations, servicing, testing and inspections.
- Respond to responsive and emergency repair requests.
- Complete routine servicing and planned maintenance works.
- Carry out planned installation and remedial works.
- Complete gas works within void properties to prepare them for new tenants.
- Ensure all work complies with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and current industry safety procedures.
- Work in accordance with RAMS and Safe Systems of Work.
- Complete relevant reports, certificates and work orders accurately.
- Use mobile devices to update jobs, order materials and request follow-on works.
- Manage van stock and ensure appropriate materials are available for completing repairs.
- Maintain the allocated vehicle, including completing relevant vehicle checks and paperwork.
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures and ensure PPE and tools are maintained and used correctly.
- Comply with the Council’s asbestos procedures and undertake relevant training.
- Provide a professional and customer-focused service when working in tenants’ homes.
- Participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota when required.
Essential Requirements
- Current Gas Safe registration.
- CCN1 Core Gas Safety qualification.
- Relevant domestic gas qualifications, including:
- CPA1
- CKR1
- CENWAT1
- MET1
- HTR1
- Range Cooker
- Unvented Hot Water
- Practical experience carrying out gas installations, servicing and repairs.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Ability to use electronic devices to update work orders and complete reports.
- Good customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full, valid driving licence.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training, including CAT B asbestos training.
- Willingness to participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota.
Desirable
- Experience working within social housing or housing maintenance.
- Time-served apprenticeship.
- Experience or qualifications in Oil, LPG, Renewables or Non-Domestic Gas.
