Class 2 Lorry Driver – Coventry City Council

Coventry City Council is looking for an experienced Class 2 Lorry Driver to join its Environmental Services team, based at Whitley Depot. You will be responsible for operating Class 2 vehicles across Coventry and surrounding areas, supporting services including waste collection, recycling, highway sweeping and drainage operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive Class 2 HGV vehicles safely and efficiently across allocated routes.
• Undertake waste collection, recycling and environmental services duties.
• Carry out daily vehicle inspections, routine checks and report any defects.
• Ensure loads are secure and vehicle weight limits are not exceeded.
• Follow road transport legislation, health and safety procedures and site regulations.
• Monitor driving hours and comply with tachograph and DVSA requirements.
• Ensure all allocated work and daily routes are completed within set timescales.
• Deal professionally and courteously with members of the public.
• Report accidents, incidents and near misses.
• Support and mentor new drivers as required.

Essential Requirements:

• Valid Class 2 (Category C) HGV driving licence.
• No more than 6 penalty points.
• Valid Driver CPC qualification.
• Good experience in professional HGV driving.
• Ability to manoeuvre large vehicles safely, including in confined spaces.
• Good understanding of road safety and health and safety requirements.
• Must be able to pass an occupational health driving medical.
