Homelessness Prevention Officer

We are looking for an experienced Homelessness Prevention Officer to join a growing team supporting individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of homelessness and housing prevention cases.
  • Carry out detailed housing options and support needs assessments using a person-centred approach.
  • Take appropriate action to prevent and relieve homelessness.
  • Make statutory homelessness determinations in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Apply knowledge of Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Work with accommodation providers, Community Safety teams and other internal and external partners.
  • Support individuals and families with multiple and complex vulnerabilities.
  • Use a trauma-informed approach when working with vulnerable households.
  • Work across both the Homelessness Advice and Social Inclusion teams to deliver effective homelessness prevention.

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a homelessness/housing options environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Experience managing a caseload and undertaking homelessness assessments.
  • Experience making statutory homelessness decisions.
  • Strong communication and partnership-working skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with vulnerable people and complex cases.
  • A person-centred and trauma-informed approach.
