Job Description: Housing Officer (Grade 6)

Role Purpose

To deliver high-quality, frontline housing management services across a designated geographical patch, ensuring residents can maintain their tenancies and live in safe, clean, and well-managed neighbourhoods. The role supports strong communities through responsive tenancy management, estate oversight, and partnership working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main point of contact for residents within a defined housing patch.
  • Manage tenancy matters including new tenancy visits, routine tenancy checks, and support for vulnerable residents.
  • Handle tenancy-related requests such as mutual exchanges and succession applications in line with statutory requirements.
  • Monitor and improve estate conditions by identifying issues such as fly-tipping, environmental concerns, and communal area maintenance.
  • Conduct regular estate walkabouts and engage with residents and stakeholders to address local issues.
  • Respond to and manage reports of anti-social behaviour, escalating safeguarding concerns where appropriate.
  • Work closely with internal teams (repairs, caretaking, rents, housing support, community safety) and external partners to resolve issues effectively.
  • Ensure accurate recording of all contacts and casework on the housing management system.
  • Support residents in accessing appropriate council services and external support agencies.
  • Contribute to service improvement, neighbourhood initiatives, and positive community engagement.

Key Skills & Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a resident-focused approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Sound judgement in problem-solving and decision-making, with appropriate escalation when required.
  • Good understanding of housing management, tenancy issues, and estate-based working.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance required.
