About the Role

Denbighshire County Council is looking for an HR Assistant to provide first-line HR support to employees and managers across the Authority, including school-based staff.

You will be responsible for providing professional advice and guidance on day-to-day HR queries, while supporting the administration of the full employee lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding through to transfers and leavers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for HR queries by phone, email and in person.
  • Provide advice and guidance on recruitment, leave, employee relations, terms and conditions and general HR matters.
  • Administer employee lifecycle processes including new starters, transfers and leavers.
  • Support recruitment administration, including vacancy packs and contractual documentation.
  • Complete and monitor safer recruitment checks, including DBS, references, Right to Work, qualification and EWC checks.
  • Ensure employee information is accurately maintained on i-Trent, EDRMS and Vision Time.
  • Notify Payroll of relevant pay-related transactions.
  • Maintain and update the HR intranet and associated documentation.
  • Provide administrative support to the HR Management Team and HR Business Partners.
  • Attend employee relations meetings and take minutes when required.
  • Assist with HR projects and process improvements.
  • Ensure all HR processes are completed in line with council policies, procedures and agreed timescales.

About You

You will have experience in HR administration or a similar people-focused role, with the ability to handle employee queries professionally and maintain accurate records.

You should have:

  • Experience of HR administration and employee lifecycle processes.
  • Experience supporting recruitment and pre-employment checks.
  • Good knowledge of DBS, Right to Work and reference checking processes.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate more complex HR matters.
  • Experience using HR systems would be beneficial, particularly i-Trent or similar systems.

As the role supports the wider Council, including school-based staff, a strong understanding of safer recruitment and safeguarding procedures is important. All employees are expected to follow the Council’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
