About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic HR Culture Assistant to join our Human Resources and Organisational Development (HROD) team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in HR, gaining hands-on experience while supporting the delivery of a professional, customer-focused HR service across the council.

You will play a key role in supporting day-to-day HR operations, acting as a first point of contact for HR queries and contributing to initiatives that enhance employee experience and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for HR-related queries from employees and managers, providing guidance or escalating where appropriate
  • Triaging HR enquiries and supporting the wider HROD team in delivering an efficient HR service
  • Coordinate and administer job evaluation and grading requests, ensuring accurate record-keeping
  • Support the delivery and promotion of employee wellbeing initiatives, including financial wellbeing and salary sacrifice schemes
  • Maintain accurate HR records and support general HR administration
  • Contribute to a positive employee experience by supporting HR projects and initiatives

About You

  • A strong interest in developing a career in Human Resources
  • Currently studying towards, or willing to work towards, a CIPD qualification (desirable)
  • Previous experience in an HR or administrative support role (desirable)
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
  • Confident communicator, able to deal with a range of queries professionally
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritise tasks effectively

Desirable Knowledge

  • Awareness of local government HR practices
  • Understanding of employment policies and conditions of service
