Inquest Assistant

Job Details

This role provides legal administrative support to the Inquest Manager at the North London Coroner’s Service, assisting the Senior Coroner and Assistant Coroners with the inquest process. To meet the evolving needs of the service you may also be required to work flexibly, providing cover in other areas following appropriate discussion.

Main Responsibilities

To provide specific support in relation to inquests, assisting the Inquest Manager, Senior Coroner and Assistant Coroners. Following Coroner’s directions and the Inquest Manager’s advice and guidance.

To assist all stakeholders in contact with the Coroner’s Service in matters relating to inquests.

Collate reports for the Senior Coroner and prepare files in connection with inquests.

Support the Inquest Manager with the management of inquests in accordance with statutory provisions, including sending out legal notices and responding to requests with their guidance.

Build and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders.

Where necessary and with guidance from the Inquest Manager, liaise with family members of the bereaved, including sharing information, and signposting them through the process as necessary. Provide support to the Inquest Manager in drafting responses to a wide range of legal enquiries.

  2. Understanding and commitment to promoting and implementing the Council’s Equal Opportunities policies.
  3. Knowledge and experience of using IT.
  4. To undertake any other temporary responsibilities aligned with the overall purpose and grade of the role.
