Job Purpose
The Personal Care Specialist Teaching Assistant will provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils who require personal care alongside classroom and pastoral support. The role ensures pupils are safe, comfortable, and able to access learning in a supportive and inclusive school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care support, including changing and hoisting, in line with care plans and dignity standards.
- Support pupils in the classroom to engage with learning activities under the direction of the teacher.
- Assist pupils with mobility, positioning, and physical support throughout the school day.
- Promote pupils’ independence, confidence, and wellbeing at all times.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and manual handling procedures.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to meet individual pupil needs.
- Monitor and report on pupils’ wellbeing, progress, and any concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality and treat all pupils with respect and dignity.
Skills, Experience and Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally in a school or SEN setting.
- Training and competence in hoisting and personal care (essential).
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Calm, patient, and compassionate approach.
- Ability to follow care plans and work as part of a team.
- Good communication skills with staff and pupils.
Additional Information
- The role is subject to appropriate safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS.
- Flexibility and reliability are essential due to the temporary nature of the role.
