Job Title: Housing Repairs Joiner (Carpentry & Joinery)

Job Purpose

To deliver high-quality carpentry and joinery repairs and maintenance across council-owned housing stock, ensuring homes are safe, secure, and well maintained for tenants and residents.

You will work as part of an operational repairs team responding to day-to-day repair requests and planned maintenance tasks across the borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out all aspects of general joinery repairs in occupied and empty properties
  • Repair and replace doors, frames, skirting boards, flooring, stair components, and kitchen fittings
  • Fit locks, handles, hinges, and other building hardware to maintain security and safety
  • Respond to reactive maintenance jobs raised by tenants and the housing service
  • Work in occupied homes with respect, professionalism, and minimal disruption to residents
  • Diagnose repair issues on-site and determine appropriate solutions
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard, compliant with safety and building regulations
  • Use council systems (e.g. handheld devices or work orders) to record job progress and completion
  • Work collaboratively with other trades within the repairs and maintenance team
  • Maintain tools, materials, and a clean, safe working vehicle

Working Environment

  • Mobile role covering properties across the borough
  • Work carried out in tenants’ homes, empty properties, and occasionally communal buildings
  • Part of a multi-skilled housing repairs team

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified joiner/carpenter (e.g. NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in domestic repairs and maintenance
  • Ability to work independently and manage a workload of repair jobs
  • Good communication skills when dealing with residents
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Experience working in social housing or local authority maintenance
  • Knowledge of multi-trade repair environments
  • Basic IT skills for job management systems
