About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapy Practitioner to join the West Locality Occupational Therapy Team on a one-year maternity cover.
The team works with adults living in the community, supporting them to remain safe, independent and living in their own homes. The role has a strong focus on major adaptations through the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) pathway, as well as the assessment and provision of complex equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out occupational therapy assessments with adults in their own homes.
- Assess individuals’ functional needs, risks and ability to manage safely and independently.
- Recommend and arrange appropriate equipment and adaptations to meet assessed needs.
- Assess and recommend manual handling equipment where required.
- Make recommendations for minor and major adaptations to people’s homes.
- Work within the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) pathway for major adaptations.
- Work closely with service users, families, carers and relevant professionals to identify appropriate solutions.
- Support adults to remain safely and independently in the community.
Essential Requirements
- HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
- Experience assessing adults in their own homes.
- Experience recommending and/or providing equipment and adaptations.
- Experience with manual handling equipment.
- Knowledge or experience of major adaptations and/or the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) process is highly desirable.
- Good assessment, communication and professional decision-making skills.
Ideal Background
This role would suit an Occupational Therapist with experience in community OT, adult social care, housing adaptations, DFGs, rehabilitation or complex equipment provision, particularly those who are confident carrying out assessments within people’s homes.
