Family Support Worker – Disability Team

PAYE: £20.92 per hour

2-3 days in the office including visits to families
Must have experience of direct work with vulnerable children and families. This post sits in a disability team so they will need to have experience or understanding of this area.

Job Purpose

As a Family Support Worker, you will work directly with vulnerable children and their families to provide practical and emotional support. You will help improve children’s wellbeing, promote positive outcomes, and ensure families receive the support and services they need. You will be part of a Disability Team, so experience of working with children and families with disabilities, or a good understanding of their needs, is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with vulnerable children and their families, providing advice, guidance, and practical support.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children, parents, and carers.
  • Support children with disabilities and their families to access appropriate services and resources.
  • Work alongside social workers, schools, health professionals, and other agencies to deliver coordinated support.
  • Monitor family progress and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Identify any safeguarding concerns and follow safeguarding procedures.
  • Encourage families to develop their confidence, independence, and resilience.
  • Attend meetings, reviews, and training as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience of working directly with vulnerable children and families.
  • Experience of, or a good understanding of, supporting children with disabilities and their families.
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with partner agencies.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and maintain accurate records.
