Job Title: Deputy Officer in Charge / Deputy Manager – Children’s Home

Job Summary:
As a Deputy Officer in Charge, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of a children’s residential home, providing a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for vulnerable children and young people. You will help lead and develop the staff team, ensure high standards of care are maintained, and support young people to achieve positive outcomes while promoting their independence, wellbeing, and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Registered Manager with the effective management of the children’s home.
• Ensure young people receive high-quality, person-centred care that meets their individual emotional, physical, social, cultural, and educational needs.
• Promote safeguarding and ensure all regulatory and legislative requirements are met.
• Build positive relationships with young people, families, professionals, and external agencies.
• Support staff supervision, training, development, and good practice within the team.
• Assist with care planning, assessments, reports, reviews, and meetings.
• Support the management of budgets and resources within the home.
• Encourage young people to have a voice in decisions about their care and future.
• Help create a positive environment that promotes stability, confidence, and independence.

Essential Experience & Skills:

• Experience working at a senior level within a residential childcare setting.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, child development, and relevant childcare legislation.
• Experience supporting young people with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• Ability to supervise staff, manage priorities, and make effective decisions.
• Relevant childcare qualification (e.g., Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care – Children & Young People or equivalent).
