Main Purpose of the Role

To lead and manage the Food Safety Team, ensuring the effective delivery of food law regulatory services while supporting the strategic development and future planning of the service. The role involves managing staff, overseeing performance, and ensuring food safety, hygiene, and food standards responsibilities are delivered in line with legislation and council priorities.

Typical Day Overview

A typical day may include:

  • Leading and supporting a team of food safety officers and support staff.
  • Managing workloads, performance, and service priorities.
  • Reviewing complex food safety cases and providing expert advice.
  • Ensuring policies, procedures, and regulatory practices are up to date.
  • Working with managers and wider council teams to improve food safety services.
  • Monitoring compliance with food safety legislation and statutory requirements.
