Work Pattern: 22 hours a week (Typically one day in office, two remote)
PAYE Pay Rate : £19.32 per hour
Contract Length: 130 Weeks – (2 years and 6 months)
About the role
Somerset Council is looking for an Active Travel Project Manager to help deliver our £9 million+ Active Travel programme.
You will manage projects from early development and planning through to design, approvals, construction and handover. You will work with colleagues, contractors, communities, elected members and organizations such as Active Travel England to ensure schemes are delivered successfully.
The role will also support wider transport and infrastructure projects across Somerset.
Main responsibilities
- Manage active travel and transport projects from development through to delivery.
- Manage project budgets, programmes, risks and deadlines.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, consultants and contractors.
- Work with stakeholders and communities to develop and deliver schemes.
- Support business cases, procurement, planning and approvals.
- Commission and manage technical work such as surveys, design and modelling.
- Ensure projects meet relevant governance, funding and CDM requirements.
- Support the delivery of wider minor transport and safety improvement schemes.
A typical day
Your day could include:
- Reviewing project progress, budgets and risks.
- Meeting with project teams and stakeholders.
- Reviewing designs and technical reports.
- Working with Active Travel England and other partners.
- Managing consultations and approvals.
- Preparing project updates and reports.
- Resolving issues and planning the next stages of delivery.
Skills and experience
We are looking for someone with:
- Experience managing complex projects, ideally in transport, highways or infrastructure.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Experience managing budgets, programmes and risks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience coordinating consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
- Good understanding of transport or active travel schemes.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver projects to agreed deadlines.
Essential qualifications
- Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in project management, transport, highways, engineering, construction, planning or a related field.
- Significant experience in project management and delivery.
- Knowledge of relevant project governance, procurement and health and safety requirements.
