Work pattern: 2 days in the Town Hall 3 days at site meetings or working from home
PAYE Pay Rate: £360.74 per day

Main Purpose of the Role
To lead and manage a team of 6 Mechanical Engineers, overseeing mechanical compliance, repairs, planned maintenance and projects across a diverse corporate and leisure property portfolio of around 250 buildings.

Typical Day

  • Manage and support a team of 6 mechanical professionals.
  • Oversee mechanical PPM, repairs, compliance and improvement works.
  • Act as the Council’s responsible person for Legionella management.
  • Lead the mechanical engineering function within Technical Services.
  • Manage 40–60 small mechanical projects annually, valued at approximately £3–4 million.
  • Manage contractors, consultants and mechanical service contracts.
  • Provide technical advice and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
  • Ensure buildings comply with relevant legislation, standards and safety requirements.
  • Work across a diverse portfolio, including modern and historic buildings.
  • Report to the Head of Technical Services.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Extensive mechanical engineering and building services experience.
  • Experience within construction, commercial or corporate property.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building services.
  • Experience managing teams, contractors and contracts.
  • Experience delivering maintenance and capital projects.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance and Legionella management.
  • Excellent technical problem-solving and project management skills.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant Mechanical Engineering subject.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering/building services.
  • Experience managing a commercial/corporate property portfolio.
