Housing Allocations Officer

Main Purpose

To provide a high-quality and responsive housing allocations service, ensuring social housing is allocated fairly and efficiently to eligible tenants and residents.

Typical Day

  • Manage housing applications and transfers.
  • Assess and verify housing applications.
  • Advertise available properties and shortlist applicants.
  • Make property offers and nominations.
  • Conduct home visits and investigations where required.
  • Work with Housing Associations, ALMOs and housing providers.
  • Monitor social housing stock and provider performance.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce reports.
  • Liaise with other council housing teams.

  • Housing allocations and lettings.
  • Choice-Based Lettings (CBL).
  • Housing register management.
  • Application assessment and verification.
  • Knowledge of housing allocation policies.
  • Customer service and communication.
  • Investigation and decision-making.
  • Housing Association/Registered Social Landlord liaison.
  • Data management and reporting.
  • Understanding of social housing and housing legislation.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in housing allocations/social housing.
  • Knowledge of housing allocation schemes and CBL.
  • Experience managing and verifying housing applications.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation and policies.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Good IT, data and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload and deadlines.
  • Experience working with Housing Associations/RSLs.
  • Enhanced DBS check required
