Housing Allocations Officer
Main Purpose
To provide a high-quality and responsive housing allocations service, ensuring social housing is allocated fairly and efficiently to eligible tenants and residents.
Typical Day
- Manage housing applications and transfers.
- Assess and verify housing applications.
- Advertise available properties and shortlist applicants.
- Make property offers and nominations.
- Conduct home visits and investigations where required.
- Work with Housing Associations, ALMOs and housing providers.
- Monitor social housing stock and provider performance.
- Maintain accurate records and produce reports.
- Liaise with other council housing teams.
Key Skills / Responsibilities
- Housing allocations and lettings.
- Choice-Based Lettings (CBL).
- Housing register management.
- Application assessment and verification.
- Knowledge of housing allocation policies.
- Customer service and communication.
- Investigation and decision-making.
- Housing Association/Registered Social Landlord liaison.
- Data management and reporting.
- Understanding of social housing and housing legislation.
Essential Requirements
- Experience in housing allocations/social housing.
- Knowledge of housing allocation schemes and CBL.
- Experience managing and verifying housing applications.
- Knowledge of housing legislation and policies.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Good IT, data and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage a busy caseload and deadlines.
- Experience working with Housing Associations/RSLs.
- Enhanced DBS check required
