PAYE Pay Rate: £35-£45 per hour
Job Purpose
The Public Health Noise & Nuisance Team is looking for two experienced officers to support increased service demand. The role involves investigating a wide range of public health, environmental and noise nuisance complaints and taking appropriate action to resolve issues.
Typical Day
A typical day may include:
- Investigating noise and nuisance complaints.
- Responding to complaints about construction noise, amplified music and barking dogs.
- Investigating pest infestations, fly-tipping and dumped waste.
- Responding to bonfires and other environmental concerns.
- Carrying out site visits and gathering evidence.
- Speaking with residents, businesses and other relevant parties.
- Providing advice and negotiating solutions where appropriate.
- Taking informal or formal enforcement action when required.
- Preparing reports, correspondence and case records.
- Following up cases to ensure issues have been resolved.
- Working with other Council teams and external agencies.
- Managing a caseload and meeting service standards and deadlines.
- Working flexibly, including out-of-hours work where required.
Key Skills & Experience
- Experience in Environmental Health, Noise & Nuisance or Environmental Enforcement.
- Experience investigating environmental complaints and nuisance issues.
- Good knowledge of relevant environmental health legislation.
- Strong investigation and evidence-gathering skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to deal confidently with difficult or challenging situations.
- Experience managing a caseload and prioritizing workload.
- Ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible approach to working hours and service demands.
Qualification Needed
- Relevant Environmental Health qualification, ideally BSc/BA Environmental Health or equivalent.
- Candidates should have relevant Environmental Health / Noise & Nuisance enforcement experience.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Control of Pollution Act 1974.
- Experience conducting investigations, gathering evidence and taking enforcement action.
- Standard DBS check
