Work Pattern: Will be expected to come into the office on Fridays plus any other days when required , 37 hours a week.
PAYE Pay Rate: £466.59 per day
Main Purpose of the Role
To provide senior technical and architectural leadership for Southwark Council’s Microsoft Fabric data and analytics platform.
The role will review and improve the existing Fabric architecture, governance, security and operating model, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, cost-effective and aligned with Microsoft best practice and the Council’s wider digital strategy.
Typical Day – Overview
- Review and provide assurance on Microsoft Fabric architecture and new solutions.
- Design and validate architecture patterns across OneLake, Lakehouses, Warehouses, pipelines, notebooks, semantic models and Power BI.
- Review the Council’s Bronze, Silver and Gold Medallion data architecture.
- Strengthen governance, security, access controls and workspace management.
- Monitor Fabric capacity, performance and costs and identify optimisation opportunities.
- Work with Data, Cyber Security, Information Governance and business teams.
- Advise on appropriate use of Fabric, self-service analytics and data products.
- Support Dev, Test and Production processes, deployment pipelines and operational handover.
- Produce architecture diagrams, standards, roadmaps and technical recommendations.
- Mentor data engineers, analysts, developers and platform administrators.
- Provide architectural advice on AI, Copilot and advanced analytics projects

Essential Qualifications / Requirements
- Proven experience designing, reviewing and implementing enterprise-scale Microsoft Fabric solutions.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, including OneLake, Lakehouses, Warehouses, notebooks, pipelines, dataflows, semantic models and Power BI.
- Strong experience with enterprise data architecture and governance frameworks.
- Good understanding of Azure services, resource groups, subscriptions, RBAC, monitoring and security.
- Experience with data protection, information governance and secure access to sensitive data.
- Experience producing architecture standards, documentation, operating models and roadmaps.
- Strong technical leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical and senior stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring and providing design assurance to technical teams.
