Work Pattern: 3 days in the office, 36 hours per week
PAYE Pay Rate: £30 to £43 per hour
Main Purpose of the Role
To provide a professional surveying and technical service covering building repairs and adaptations, ensuring works meet statutory requirements, quality standards, budget and programme objectives.
Typical Day
- Inspect properties to diagnose building defects and identify required repairs or adaptations.
- Prepare specifications, designs and schedules of work.
- Manage repair projects from inception through to completion.
- Programme works and supervise contractors on site.
- Monitor cost, quality, progress and health & safety.
- Liaise with residents, contractors, suppliers and internal departments.
- Provide technical advice on building practices, legislation and statutory requirements.
- Review and evaluate tenders and support procurement processes.
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
- Identify opportunities for service improvement, sustainability and value for money.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose building defects and specify, design and manage repair and adaptation works.
- Manage projects from inception to completion, including programming and contractor supervision.
- Monitor works to ensure they are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality.
- Develop and monitor practices and procedures to provide a high-quality, customer-focused service.
- Build positive working relationships with residents, applicants, contractors, supply chain partners and internal/external stakeholders.
- Provide expert advice on building practices, legislation and statutory requirements.
- Advise on legislative changes and sustainable technologies that could improve service delivery.
- Support the arrangement, invitation and evaluation of tenders, ensuring financial and audit compliance.
- Promote value for money and continuous service improvement.
Essential experience: Strong practical experience in building surveying, repairs, adaptations, contractor management and project delivery is likely to be more important than a specific qualification if the Council has not stipulated one.
