Main Purpose of the Role

The role involves delivering high-quality, evidence-based and person-centered occupational therapy within the community, supporting adults and older people with their individual needs.

You will assess needs and provide specialist advice on equipment, care and housing adaptations, working with individuals, families, careers and partner organizations to maximize independence, safety and quality of life.

Typical Day Overview

• Manage a varied and often complex caseload independently.
• Carry out occupational therapy assessments and interventions.
• Assess functional needs and recommend specialist equipment or housing adaptations.
• Complete manual handling risk assessments and develop handling plans.
• Visit service users in their homes and provide advice to individuals, families and carers.
• Liaise with health, social care, voluntary and private-sector professionals.
• Prepare accurate client and service reports.
• Delegate and supervise work carried out by Occupational Therapy Assistants and students.
• Maintain accurate records and comply with safeguarding, confidentiality and professional standards.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
• Current HCPC professional registration.
• Post-graduate experience in community occupational therapy.
• Experience managing complex caseloads.
• Experience working within a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Experience liaising with statutory, voluntary and private organisations.
• Experience delivering assessments/interventions through virtual platforms.
• Experience of delegation and supervision.
• Knowledge of relevant social care, safeguarding, mental capacity and equipment/adaptation legislation.
• Full driving licence and ability to travel within the community.
• Enhanced DBS required.
• Welsh language skills: Level 3 speaking/listening and Level 3 reading/writing to be achieved within two years.
