Work Pattern: 3 Days in the office, 2 days WFH
PAYE Pay Rate: £23.51 per hour
Main Purpose of the Role
To manage a caseload of households living in temporary accommodation and help them move into suitable settled accommodation. The role focuses on understanding housing needs, identifying suitable properties, removing barriers to moving and completing the process to discharge the Council’s homelessness duties.
Typical Day Overview
- Manage and progress a caseload of households ready to move from temporary accommodation.
- Review housing needs, affordability, location requirements and any vulnerabilities.
- Match households with suitable private rented, social, supported or other settled accommodation.
- Work with Lettings Negotiators to identify and allocate suitable properties.
- Support households with choice-based lettings, including bidding, viewings and accepting offers.
- Contact households to explain their housing options, responsibilities and next steps.
- Liaise with Social Care, health services, benefits/debt advisers and other agencies where additional support is required.
- Carry out property or home visits where necessary.
- Process offers, refusals, letters and discharge notifications.
- Help households prepare for their move, including benefits, schools and settling into their new community.
- Deal with complaints and identify opportunities to improve the service.
Key Skills & Responsibilities
- Housing case management and managing a caseload effectively.
- Understanding of temporary accommodation and move-on processes.
- Ability to assess housing needs, affordability and suitability.
- Knowledge of social housing, private rented accommodation and choice-based lettings.
- Understanding of homelessness duties and the process of discharging homelessness duties.
- Strong communication, negotiation and customer service skills.
- Ability to work with vulnerable households and identify support needs.
- Strong organisation and ability to work at pace and meet deadlines.
- Good partnership working with internal departments and external agencies.
- Accurate case recording, documentation and reporting.
- Ability to resolve complaints and deal with challenging situations.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to identify practical solutions to move-on barriers.
Essential Requirements / Qualifications
- Relevant experience in housing, homelessness, temporary accommodation or housing options.
- Experience managing a housing-related caseload.
- Knowledge of housing options and accommodation pathways.
- Understanding of homelessness legislation and statutory duties would be highly important.
- Experience working with vulnerable individuals or households.
- Good IT, administration and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to travel for property and home visits where required.
