PAYE Pay Rate: £200.69 per day

Main Purpose of the Role

To lead the safe, efficient and customer-focused delivery of the Council’s frontline greenspaces and parks services. The role will manage Team Leaders and oversee operational teams responsible for parks, open spaces, countryside sites, trees, woodlands, cemeteries, allotments and sports pitches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day parks, countryside and greenspaces operations.
  • Line manage two Team Leaders and oversee frontline operational teams.
  • Plan and allocate staff, vehicles, equipment, materials and workloads.
  • Ensure sites are safe, well maintained and meet agreed service standards.
  • Manage staff performance, recruitment, training, attendance, wellbeing and development.
  • Oversee health & safety, risk assessments, COSHH, inspections, PPE and safe systems of work.
  • Manage vehicles, plant, machinery and operational equipment.
  • Coordinate emergency response and business continuity, including severe weather, flooding and major incidents.
  • Monitor performance, maintain accurate records and identify opportunities for service improvement.
  • Manage contractors and monitor contract performance.
  • Work with Council departments, contractors, external partners and local communities.
  • Provide operational advice to senior officers and work effectively within a political environment.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, Council policies and environmental requirements.
  • Support biodiversity, sustainability and responsible management of natural assets.

Essential Experience

  • Experience managing parks, greenspaces, countryside, grounds maintenance or environmental services.
  • Strong operational management and people-management experience.
  • Experience managing frontline teams and Team Leaders.
  • Good knowledge of health & safety, risk management and operational procedures.
  • Experience managing contractors, resources, vehicles, plant and equipment.
  • Experience managing service performance and implementing improvements.
  • Ability to manage emergency situations and competing operational priorities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Council officers, contractors and members of the public.
